Key Issues

Manufacture Alabama’s mission is to create a business and political climate that promotes a positive, competitive environment and enhances the opportunity for growth of Alabama manufacturers. To this end, Manufacture Alabama advocates for pro-growth business policies while fighting to ensure that industry is never unfairly targeted by overly burdensome rules, regulations and taxes. Among MA’s key focuses are:

Economic Development

The majority of new jobs are created by existing industry. MA supports tax incentives for expansions and capital investments of Alabama’s existing manufacturers.

Energy

MA members are among Alabama’s largest energy consumers and producers. Affordable and reliable service, access to natural energy resources, a modern energy infrastructure and a pro-business Public Service Commission are key components to the success of MA members.

Environmental Regulations

Manufacture Alabama enjoys a very productive relationship with ADEM (Alabama Department of Environmental Management). This partnership helps MA members ensure proper compliance practices.

Human Resources

State and federal labor and employment law and peripheral issues that impact employer policies play a large role in today’s business decisions. MA understands the need to strike balance between employee rights and employer protections.

Rail Transportation

Unpredictable prices and unreliable rail freight services can be very harmful to manufacturers. MA advocates for reliable, cost-effective rail service through reasonable regulation.

Safety & Security

Manufacture Alabama supports workplace policies that provide proper employee protections, while affording employers practical compliance methods. MA promotes member safety records through its Governor-awarded Safety Achievement program.

Taxes

Alabama policymakers debate new revenue sources each and every year. MA provides protection from increased taxes at both the Department of Revenue and the Alabama Legislature.

Transportation & Infrastructure

Manufacturers rely on a modern infrastructure system for the movement and transport of raw materials, parts and products. MA advocates for robust surface and waterways transportation infrastructure systems, broadband and telecommunications networks, clean- and waste-water infrastructure, electricity grid and pipelines.

Workforce Development

Transforming Alabama’s workforce delivery system is a top priority. MA is leading the way for productive reforms by connecting industry, education and government leaders to deliver a results-driven workforce development system.
