Employees of Merryweather Foam, Inc. recently
announced the company had received ISO 9001:2000 Quality System
certification for its Sylacauga facilities.
ISO 9001 is an international standard for business management,
describing guidelines for establishing, documenting and maintaining
high quality systems addressing all stages of manufacturing operations.
Merryweather initially registered in 2001,
but chose to renew their registration with a new Registrar. This
required a full system audit from QMI, a Canadian headquartered
International Registrar.
The Alabama Technology Network (ATN) was asked to perform a gap
analysis prior to the audit by QMI. Merryweather’s
VP of Marketing, Bellaire Riley, praised ATN for their effort stating, “It
was like they knew all the answers to the test. The company’s
management system conforms to the stringent quality standards of
the International Standards Organization (ISO).
“Winning ISO 9001 certification reflects Merryweather’s world-class
manufacturing systems achieved through teamwork and our continuous improvement
efforts,” said Ed Spraley, VP Operations. “ISO 9001 is quickly
becoming the industry standard for worldwide quality performance. In
the last two years, our understanding of the benefits of ISO and Lean Manufacturing
has provided us the platform to transition to extremely high product reliability,
quality standards and customer satisfaction.”
The Alabama Technology Network, part of the Alabama Community College
System, links educational and economic development partners together
to solve the needs of the state’s industries. For more
