OSHA Update 2010–This
session will provide an update on OSHA’s current and
emerging issues. The presentation will also offer specific
examples of deficiencies that have led to violations being
charged in the 2009 year.
OSHA
29 CFR 1910.119 better known as Process Safety Management
(PSM) -
The PSM standard has had a major impact on the manufacturing
community since it’s promulgation in 1992.
Even after 18 years, questions regularly come up
regarding the 14 elements. Get a better understanding of
the standard, the new compliance directive issued July 27th,
2009 and how it affects you. Also, hear some best practices
of how to comply and how manufacturers that are not covered
by the standard can benefit from various PSM practices.
Labor & Employment Legislation
Update – An
update will be provided on new and pending federal labor
and employment statutes and regulations, the status of the
Employee Free Choice Act, and what to expect in
2010 and beyond from the new National Labor Relations
Board members. What
can Alabama employers do to prepare for changes?
Behavioral
Base Safety & Culture Change – This
presentation deals with the cultural changes that can
come from a stable behavior based safety system. BBS
can have a positive impact beyond safety. It can change
communication models, employee awareness, and improve
morale. This is the story of Shaw Industries' BBS deployment
to 87 sites and 19,000 people.
5S Philosophy and Implementation -
5S program philosophy, as well as how to implement the
5S program in a manufacturing facility will be discussed. 5S
has been recognized globally in manufacturing facilities
as a part of lean manufacturing ever since it’s
beginning at Toyota. Implementation of 5S in
a manufacturing facility results in improved efficiency
and safety by eliminating waste while providing better
organization of resources.
Introduction
to Safe State -Since 1978, Safe State at UAB
has been providing free safety and health assistance
to thousands of Alabama companies. Want to improve
your level of OSHA compliance and make your safety program
more effective? Need some industrial hygiene testing
for noise or air contaminant exposures? This presentation
is tailored for attendees with safety and health management
responsibilities.
Active Shooter
Response –Due
to the number of high profile shootings in the last couple
of years this subject has unfortunately reminded us of the
need to be prepared. While most companies address
violent behavior through policy and training, the increase
in active shooters has forced a change in some of the
methods and principles of response. Learn how to
incorporate practical response steps into your emergency
response procedures, and how to train your employees
if ever confronted with this situation.
Fall
Protection – The
dangers of working at heights are well known, and the associated
accidents are highly publicized. Falls represent the
number one cause of death in construction and alternate between
the number two and three cause of death in general industry.
The purpose of this presentation is to provide the attendee
with a mechanism that will allow them to evaluate the level
of fall prevention and protection knowledge that currently
exists at their work site.
